Job Description
Frijns Middle East is recruiting for a Contracts/Commercial Lead to join our growing team in Mesaieed, Qatar. This is a full-time office-based role with occasional site visits.
The Contracts/Commercial Lead is responsible for managing the commercial, contractual and financial aspects of projects (pre and post award). This role ensures projects are delivered within budget, on time and in compliance with contractual obligations whilst mitigating risks and maximising profitability. The successful candidate will oversee the negotiations, execution and management of contracts for steel fabrication projects for different industries. This role involves coordinating with clients, suppliers, project managers and company leadership team to ensure all contractual obligations are met efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Review, negotiate, and administer contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
- Review Confidentiality agreements / NDA’s in accordance with business needs
- Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Providing overviews of contract T&Cs and associated issues to senior management and execution teams, as applicable
- Prepare and review contract terms and conditions and prepare contractual qualifications
- Reviewing proposed contract qualifications with other functions, as required, to ensure the balance of risk is appropriate for the associated services and remuneration model.
- Provide contractual interpretation advice, including financial instruments (Bonds / Letters of Credit, PCG’s, Collateral Warranties)
- Develop main contract flowdown requirements for PO’s and subcontracts, in conjunction with supply chain, as required.
- Negotiate terms with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring cost-effective procurement of materials and services.
- Prepare commercial handover for project delivery team once contract is awarded.
- Manage variations, claims, and disputes, ensuring proper documentation and resolution to protect company interests.
- Maintain contract records and documentation to ensure traceability and audit readiness.
- Maintain meticulous records of all changes, ensuring that all necessary documentation (correspondence, cost estimates, schedules, etc.) is organised and accessible to support ongoing negotiations and potential claims. This documentation ensures compliance, validates entitlements, and substantiates claims if disputes arise.
- Ensure adherence to industry regulations and contractual obligations.
- Maintain strong client relationships, addressing commercial queries and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and production teams to align commercial objectives with project delivery.
- Support junior staff performance and competency reviews
Skills and Qualifications
- University degree preferably in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commercial Management, law, or a related field
- Minimum of 15+ years relevant experience including at least five (5) years in similar position
- Always act ethically and with the utmost integrity
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes and contract law
- Proven experience in contracts or commercial management within the steel fabrication, construction, or engineering industries.
- Strong work ethics, be able to work under pressure and with different priorities
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills for coordination with clients, consultants, contractors, and executive management.
- Excellent English language skills
